I had a discussion with Kathy regarding Personal Tax returns prepared by another licensed accountant hired by my elderly parents in the Naples Florida area. I elaborated on their past obligation to pay the IRS thousands of dollars annually and expressed a desire to review their income tax returns. Kathy conducted an interview to ensure that all applicable deductions were being claimed. 

As a result of her efforts to understand their situation, she discovered that the other accountant had failed to deduct the funds received from an insurance policy that provided monthly payments towards their Assisted Living Facility. So these funds had been included in their annual income, but they had not been accounted for as payments made to their

Assisted Living Facility. 

This oversight resulted in a total overpayment of over $8,000 across the three returns, and those funds were issued back as a refund.
